What Itβs Really Like in an RV During Bad Weather (70 MPH Winds) πͺοΈππ
If youβve ever wondered what bad weather in an RV feels likeβ¦ tonight gave us a REAL reminder ππ¬οΈ
While living full-time in our fifth wheel, a massive desert windstorm unexpectedly rolled through with wind gusts reaching around 70 mph πͺοΈπ΅ The RV shook for HOURS, the wind noise was absolutely unreal, and even our slides were slightly moving from the pressure of the gusts π³π¨
At one point it honestly sounded like the entire desert was trying to take flight around us π¬οΈποΈπ€£
Thankfully, we were completely safe the whole time ππΌπ Just very loud, very windy, and definitely not much sleep π βοΈ
Why We Avoid Traveling in High Winds ππ¨β οΈ
Nights like this are exactly why we avoid towing our RV on super windy days whenever possible π
Strong crosswinds can make towing a fifth wheel or travel trailer dangerous FAST π¬οΈπ For us, sustained winds or strong gusts over 30β40 mph are usually enough to reconsider a travel day π
High winds can cause:
Trailer sway π¬
Dust storms and poor visibility π«οΈ
Driver fatigue π₯΄
Sudden lane movement from gusts π¨
When youβre parked, strong wind is mostly just uncomfortable and noisy π
When youβre towing? Thatβs when it can become unsafe β οΈ
RV Life Means Respecting the Weather βοΈπ΅
One thing full-time RV living has taught us is that weather matters A LOT when your house has wheels πβ¨
Not every day on the road is campfires, mountain views, and perfect sunsets ποΈπ Sometimes itβs getting rocked by desert winds at midnight while trying to laugh through the chaos ππͺοΈ
But honestlyβ¦ this is part of the adventure π€
And one day, these are probably the moments weβll laugh about the most π β¨
